Multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) syndromes include types 1 (MEN 1) and 2 (MEN 2), von Hippel-Lindau syndrome, neurofibromatosis type 1 and Carney complex. These are complex genetic syndromes caused by activation or inactivation of different types of genes known to be involved in the regulation of cell proliferation.
