The dyslipidemia of the metabolic syndrome (MS) confers an elevated cardiovascular risk and is characterized by increased concentrations of triglycerides, decreased HDL-cholesterol and qualitative alterations in LDL which renders it more atherogenic, like the small dense LDL.
